Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 1991 Dodge Van

Today on our 1991 Dodge Van, we'll be installing the Draw-Tite 4-Pole Hardwire Kit including the circuit tester, part number 18252. To begin with, we're going to start here on the driver's side. We'll need to remove the six bolts that hold the lens cover in place, as well as the back part of the light. Once we get these six screws removed, we'll go ahead and test and figure out which wires do which functions here on the driver's side. With using our test light, we found that the outside wire on this case, or the one that has two wires coming out of the same port, is the running lights. The center wire, on the connector that has three wires on it, is our brake and turn signal. The other wire goes down to the reverse light. To get our wires pulled up to here, though, we'll go ahead and start by putting our four-flat at the center of the trailer hitch and then we'll peel back the green wire, as that will be running over to the passenger side, as well as peel back the white wire which we'll need to ground underneath the vehicle using a ring terminal and a self-tapping screw. Now we'll need to look down in behind the light, and we'll need to figure out exactly where we're going to drill our hole from underneath the vehicle. We're going to go ahead and use some rubber grommets to help protect the wire where it goes through the metal part of the vehicle after we drill the hole. Now that we've got our hole drilled, we can go ahead and push the yellow and the brown wire up into the vehicle, so that it comes out behind where the light assembly is. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2000 Dodge 1500 Van

First were going to install the wiring harness which its a simple four pole flat, which is going to plug into this harness here. Well bypass the factory tow package here and it will just plug into that and well show you how it works. It would be a good reason maybe to bypass the tow package because this will all be one sealed unit when were done and then you dont have to worry about individual splices coming undone in the future if you splice them to the harness. more
